Parent Information

We shall walk together on this path of life, for all things are part of the universe, and are connected with each other to form one whole unity.

-- Dr. Maria Montessori

Firstly, it is very important for you to know that our teachers are always available to speak to you, should you have any questions or concerns. A simple phone call may suffice, or we are always willing to make an appointment to meet with you.

Following are some of our means of communication which are scheduled throughout the year:

  • Occasional phone calls
  • Class Observation (November)
  • Parent Teacher Conferences (February)

Arrivals and Departures

It is very important for your child to arrive on time so they can fully participate in the classroom activities. Promptness when picking up your child is expected at all times. Please be aware that no child will be released to a person not approved in writing by the parent or guardian. If an emergency should occur while your child is attending class, please call the school to school to notify us that you are going to be late or that someone else will be picking up your child.

During drop-off or pick-up are not recommended time to discuss your child's progress however you may request a time with the teacher(s) when it will be convenient for all.

Calendar

A monthly calendar will be sent home before the start of each month. This will inform you of any special events occurring during the month.

Birthday Celebrations

It is our philosophy to honor each child enrolled in our class on his or her birthday in a simple way. We do not host elaborate parties at school. The teachers will honor the birthday celebrant, sing to them and serve simple refreshments brought from home. Simple refreshments would be a cookie or individual cupcake. Parents are welcome to come and join us for the birthday celebration.

It is our belief that every child is special and it is very hurtful when a child is not included in a home birthday celebration. If is therefore our policy that birthday invitations will not be handed out at school.

Class Celebrations

Class parties including parents and siblings are arranged by the teachers for Halloween, Christmas and Easter. As these are very exciting days for the children, it is the school's policy to separate class parties from regular class routine. Therefore, class times will be shortened on these special days.

Snacks

Parents are asked to provide a small nutritious snack for their child. Snack time is a clam and short time for the child to sit and relax. One or two pieces of fruit or vegetable, crackers, etc. is more than enough. No drinks please! There is water in the class for them to drink if they are thirsty.

Lost Montessori Materials

From time to time, the children become attached to small pieces of the montessori material and may take them home. We would appreciate you checking your child's pockets and washing machines for these "little travelers". Many pieces are very small but are critical to an exercise or activity. Not only are they expensive to replace but often it is difficult to find a supplier. Please return these items to the school if you find one. We thank the child who returned the item and we praise his or her responsibility.
